The Grip It and Rip It Foundation was founded in August, 2023, by Ken and Christina Peek. Both educators of over 27 years, this Foundation was formed to support Ken's vision and legacy following his diagnosis of Glioblastoma. The Foundation's Mission is to provide scholarship assistance to high school students wishing to become educators and to provide funding for school educational programs needing financial assistance.
Coach Ken Peek has been a high school football and track coach in Missouri for 27 years. Most recently, he was the head boy's track coach and javelin coach at Liberty North High School. He resigned in January in 2023 so he could spend time following his own kid's sports with the intent of finishing the 2023 season!
On May 5th, he was diagnosed with Glioblastoma, an aggressive form of primary brain cancer. He underwent successful surgery on May 23rd at the University of Kansas Medical System. After a recovery period at home, he completed 6 weeks of radiation and chemotherapy on August 10th. August 13th he returned to Liberty North for his 27th year as a teacher and coach teaching health education. His fight vs. GBM far from over, he formed The Grip It And Rip It Foundation as a way to continue his passion and legacy for coaching and giving back.
Coach Peek retired on Sept 29th to run the foundation and focus on his Battle vs cancer. This is his passion -- his WHY! Working hard to give back.
His vision remains true to give back to the sport of track and field by providing scholarship opportunities, summer internship and coaching opportunities, and giving back to school programs who need financial support for their program.
JANUARY 3RD UPDATE
A series of 4 arrays are attached to my scalp. There are two patterns we use to prevent damaging the scalp.
It takes a commitment from BOTH of us to make Optune work. From Day 1, there was never any doubt. WE are committed to living every second of life that we can together.
The arrays' cable system comes together. Christina takes the time to use twistie ties to help the cables stay snug in their sleeve.
With Optune, it's possible to overheat! So they sent me some info on solar-powered hats with built in fans!
I am learning the little tricks that help with mobility and moving around. Finding the perfect hat or headband is crucial.
Adjusting to Optune is easy -- because we want it to be that way. Our attitude is everything.
